In this article, we are going to mention the list of features that will be deprecated or removed in the much-awaited Windows 11 OS. Windows 11 is set to release soon and will be available for free Upgrade. You can expect a lot of new features and enhancements in Windows 11. List of Features to be Deprecated or Removed in Windows 11
Here are the features that won’t be there or are replaced with new functionalities in Windows 11:
Microsoft has confirmed that Cortana will no longer be included in the first boot experience or pinned to the taskbar. Basically, you won’t see a “Hi there! I’m Cortana…” message when setting up Windows 11 PC. However, in any case, you can uninstall Cortana from Windows.
2] Start menu key deprecations/removals
The Start menu will be rejuvenated in Windows 11 and there will be few old features that will be removed. You will see the following functions to be gone from the Start menu in Windows 11:
- Live Tiles will no longer be available. There won’t be dynamic previews in the Start menu.
- Pinned apps or sites won’t be mitigated when you upgrade from Windows 10.
- Named groups and folders of apps are not supported. And also, the size of the layout can’t be adjusted currently.
3] Windows Timeline
Microsoft is removing the Timeline feature from Windows 11. It was basically used to have a chronological view of apps that you have accessed on your PC. However, similar features as Windows Timeline will remain on through Edge as confirmed by Microsoft.
4] Tablet Mode
The tablet mode is removed in Windows 11, but it will be replaced by new features for attaching and detaching the postures of the keyboard.
5] Snipping Tool replaced with Snip & Sketch
6] Internet Explorer is disabled
We already reported that Internet Explorer is retiring soon and will be removed from the coming Windows release. Mentioning it again that Internet Explorer is disabled in Windows 11. The recommended browser for its replacement is Microsoft Edge with IE mode, for those who still prefer Internet Explorer.
7] Taskbar Functions
Some taskbar functions are modified/ removed in Windows 11 including:
- People won’t be there on the Taskbar.
- Some system tray icons won’t appear.
- You can’t move the taskbar around, it will only be located at the bottom of the screen in Windows 11.
- Apps won’t be able to customize areas of the taskbar.
8] Math Input Panel
The Math Input Panel will no longer be there in Windows 11. In replacement, Math Recognizer will be installed on demand that will include the maths input control and recognizer. However, this won’t have any effect on Maths inking in apps such as OneNote.
9] Some Apps won’t be Pre-installed
Apps including 3D Viewer, OneNote, Paint 3D, and Skype that used to pre-installed in Windows 10 will no longer be installed on a new device or while clean-installing Windows 11. They will be available on the Microsoft Store to be downloaded manually.
10] S Mode
If you use Windows S Mode, it will now only be available in the Home Edition of Windows 11.
11] Quick Status in Lock Screen
Microsoft is removing the Quick Status in Lock Screen in Windows 11 that used to show quick statuses of apps in the lock screen.
12] Desktop wallpaper
The desktop wallpaper will not be able to roam to or from the device when you logged in with a Microsoft account.
